What are UMV programs?

UMV currently provides FREE OF CHARGE to participants:

• on-going off-site workshops
• offered weekly
• comprehensive curriculum covering all aspects of creative writing and poetry –from the classics to hip-hop; performance; oral interpretation; study of the history of spoken word

• Master Classes

Master Classes are provided as available. Drawing upon our partners Urban Word NYC and The Philly Youth Poetry Movement in addition to other resources in New York, New Jersey and Philly, several workshop series will be offered by masters in the field of creative writing and the art of spoken word and slam poetry.

• Occasionally a Master Class may be open to the public or non UMV participants.  Registration fees will apply

UMV  also provides: *            

• Open-mic performance opportunities
• Pod-casting and web-casting opportunities
• College Bound education/facilitation to prepare participants for higher education
• Provides website publication of participants written work in addition to encouraging all participants to contribute diverse content to the UMV website
• Creation of print publications: chap books and anthologies
• Offers participants (including non-writers) practical experience in audio/video production, graphic design, website design, marketing/publicity, event production and general office management
